New Jersey’s dynamic sports betting industry has set another record with its January intake of legal wagers.
Bouncing back from a December dip in the value of bets received, its nine sportsbooks have garnered a total handle $385,279,662.
This broke the previous record by all of 16% according to the State’s Division of Gaming Enforcement.
The old record had stood on $330,748,563 and was set in November.
NJ’s sports betting handle in December dropped for the first time in the five months it had been legal.
Its total intake of wagers fell away by some $11.5 million to $319,173,548 and it caused concern.
January record will bring relief, boost confidence
The record January, therefore, is certain to bring sighs of relief and boost sports betting industry confidence nation-wide.
One man who was never concerned was NJ’s Gaming Enforcement’s David Rebuck.
He had forecast December’s trends would follow those of Nevada where sports-betting has always been legal.
With gifts, holiday accommodation and celebrations to be taken care of, December funds for betting are usually limited.
NJ online wagers in January once again outstripped those taken at brick and mortar Casinos and Racetracks. Bets made on laptops and mobile devices totaled $304,973,986 as opposed to the $80,305,676 taken at betting windows.
FanDuel, DraftKings, Sugarhouse, Betstars, 888sports, PlayMGM, William Hill, Caesars and PointsBet are the nine sportsbooks currently operating in NJ.
