— Saturday, January 22nd San Francisco 49ers @ Green Bay Packers
Saturday night is going to make for a cold one at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. That might be what is needed to cool off the heat-seeking missile that are the 49ers, a team that has come up with big win after big win this season.
On one side of the ball, you have potentially the league’s back-to-back MVP in Aaron Rodgers, and on the other side, you got a cast of guys looking to make a difference led by versatile wideout Deebo Samuel.
Samuel is San Fransisco’s best weapon by far, and last week, that was put on full display as the wideout had three catches for 38 yards, 72 rush yards on ten carries, and punched it into the endzone on an explosive run that saw him allude multiple Cowboys defenders.
This bodes well for the 49ers as Green Bays’ weakest part of its defense has been the run this season. The unit has given up 4.7 yards per carry, good for 29th in the NFL and 109.1 yards per game. Getting the running game going through Deebo or Elijah Mitchell is imminent.
Quarterbacks
It’s pretty apparent who the edge goes to in this matchup. It’s Aaron Rodgers. The long-time Packers quarterback had an absurd stat line this season, throwing for 37 touchdowns, four interceptions, and a 111.9 quarterback rating, putting him first in the NFL.
The 49ers will have to do their best to quiet the Adams and Rodgers connection as Davante has gone for 100+ receiving yards over the past seven games. Rodgers has thrown 20 touchdowns and no picks in his last seven games. He makes it extremely tough on opponents to get turnovers when playing him.
As for Jimmy Garoppolo, he just has to keep his team in the game and, to do so, needs to refrain from turnovers. In the veteran’s last three games, he has thrown for five interceptions and a sub-90 quarterback rating.
When watching last week’s film, it wasn’t all bad for Garoppolo, who made some excellent, timely throws on third down and honestly throughout the game. Last week’s performance would be good enough to beat a lot of teams in the NFL, but not the Packers.
He can’t afford to turn the ball over, which might be the deciding factor in this football game. The 49ers are 2-6 when he throws an interception.
Props To Look At
Davante Adams & Deebo Samuel anytime TD scorer – These two receivers are the top weapons on the field for their respective teams and did not have a tough time finding the endzone this season.
Adams had himself 11 touchdowns this year and 18 last year. It’s quite obvious Rodgers is going to get him the ball whenever he is in single coverage, making this bet low-risk. The line currently sits at -145.
Deebo, on the other hand, has had a monster season both in the pass and run game. With eight rush touchdowns and six receiving this season, he is a threat to take it to the endzone at any time. The line currently sits at -110.
