The New York Giants will play the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday afternoon. The game is set to kick off at 4:05 P.M Eastern in Los Angeles.
The Rams will be the heavy betting favorites, entering this game with a 2-1 record. They have beaten the Cowboys and Eagles, with their loss coming last week at the hands of the Buffalo Bills.
The Giants have struggled and have yet to pick up a win. They are 0-3 with losses against the Steelers, Bears, and 49ers.
Strong Start for McVay’s Offense
Sean McVay entered the league as a young coach with a bright future. He has already found some success by taking this team to the Super Bowl just a few years ago.
Now, he is finding early success with his offense yet again. Even with Todd Gurley and Brandin Cooks out, this team has still been moving the ball. They came back after being down 25 points against the Bills to only lose in the final minutes.
“They just kept battling,” McVay said. “They just kept swinging. We’re a tough group, a mentally tough group. We’re going to use this (week) as an opportunity to respond, and we’re not going to allow the Bills to beat us twice.”
Darrell Henderson is picking up the slack following Gurley’s departure. He rushed for 114 yards last week and added a touchdown. Jared Goff has been throwing the ball well this year, accumulating 863 yards, five touchdowns, and only two interceptions.
Giants’ Struggles
The Giants weren’t a team many believed would have much success this year, but any glimmer of hope was taken away by Saquon Barkley suffering a season-ending injury. He is the highlight of this team, and they have struggled (and will continue to struggle) without him.
So far, Daniel Jones has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns. He has thrown for 699 yards, two touchdowns, and four picks.
The Giants’ leading receiver has been Darius Slayton, who has caught 12 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns.
Despite the 49ers’ long list of injuries, they were able to beat the Giants 36-9 last week.
“We have to do a better job controlling the ball, and turnovers play a big part in that,” Jones said. “It’s tough to win when you’re turning over the ball as much as we have.”
This week, Jones will have to deal with Aaron Donald, who is not the guy you want to see coming off the edge. Donald is one of the NFL’s elite pass rushers, with three sacks and a forced fumble so far this season.
Prediction
This game shapes up to be much like the Giants/49ers game last week. I don’t believe that New York will be able to compete with the offense of the Rams.
The Giants will also be facing a great defense, with possibly the best defender in the league in Donald.
The spread favors the Rams by 13.5 points, and I’m taking them to cover. Los Angeles is looking at a juicy matchup in this one, and I believe they will win by at least two touchdowns, if not more.
