Mets Just Hoping to Play
The Mets lead the Major Leagues with seven postponements already this season between games lost to COVID, rain, and now snow. The cancellations have resulted in the Mets playing four games in eight days. They shouldn’t have to deal with snow Saturday, but the weather is expected to be in the 30s.
In two starts this season deGrom has allowed one run and eight hits over 14 innings but doesn’t have a win as the Mets blew the save in the first game and didn’t score in the second. He has 21 strikeouts and two walks including a 14-strikeout performance over eight innings in the loss to Miami last Saturday.
Lucchesi is the Mets fifth starter and has not taken the mound to start a game yet in 2021. He threw two shutout innings out of the bullpen last week with three strikeouts and one hit allowed.
New York is 5-3 in eight games and the offense is fifth in the National League with a .252 average. Dominic Smith leads the team with two homers and six RBI while Brandon Nimmo has three doubles to go with a .464 average.
Rockies Offense Struggling
The Rockies are off to a 3-10 start and rank 11th in the National League with a .224 team average. They have 15 home runs and 55 runs scored in 13 games while posting a 4.85 ERA. The pitching staff has a league-worst 66 walks issued and they rank 12th in the N.L with 100 strikeouts.
Gonzalez has one start this season with three total outings. He took a no-decision in a start against the Dodgers last Saturday allowing one run on four hits over five innings. His win came out of the bullpen on April 1 despite allowing three runs in two innings.
Marquez lost on Sunday in San Francisco as he allowed three runs on six hits over 5 ⅔ innings while striking out seven. In three starts this season he has surrendered three homers, walked 11 and struck out 14 over 15 ⅔ innings.
Only Ryan McMahon is batting over .260 and the Rockies have four starters batting under .200 on the young season. McMahon has a three-homer game under his belt and leads the Rockies with six homers and 10 RBI. Catcher Dom Nunez has three homers but only four total hits.
