New Jersey sportsbooks may soon be able to offer their punters some rare live US sport to bet on. And this despite the coronavirus pandemic and the nationwide lockdowns it has caused.
Phil Mickelson has hinted that another golf two-man super-star showdown between himself and Tiger Woods is on the way.
“We’re working on it”, was the 49-year-old five-time major winner’s online reply this week to a pro golf fan.
The fan had asked on Twitter: “Do you think there is a chance you two go play a round mic’d up with one camera guy and just put it out there on a stream for people to watch?? We need live sports”.
In response, five-time major champion Mickelson replied: “Working on it”.
Then, when pressed if he was being serious, Mickelson said: “I don’t tease. I’m kinda a sure thing,”
Mickelson won $4.9m in first head-to-head battle
In 2018 the two golfing giants met in their first two-man, head-to-head battle. This was in Capitol One’s ‘The Match’ in Las Vegas and it was for a winner-take-all purse of $9 million. It attracted a large TV audience on Thanks Giving Day and Mickelson triumphed.
He beat his 44-year-old arch-rival, a 15-time major winner and one of the world’s most successful sports men of all time. But it was close.
Played at the Shadow Creek Golf Course on November 23, the match went to a 4th extra hole. Here Mickelson eventually triumphed by nailing a four-foot putt after Woods had missed from seven feet
Along with all the other US betting favorites like NFL football, NBA basketball and MLB baseball, the PGA Golf Tour is closed right now.
The Garden State’s 18 sportsbooks are still operating online. However, they are having to survive mainly on bets on future occurrences like who will win the next Super Bowl.
A Tiger vs. Lefty duel live would come as a Godsend. This would be so both to the bookies and to the millions of bored betters in lockdown.
