Week 10 of the NFL season got underway Thursday night as the Carolina Panthers knocked off the Atlanta Falcons in the rain.
Four teams have byes this week, leaving 13 games left to be played as the playoff picture rounds into shape in both the AFC and NFC. Let’s take a look at a three-game Sunday parlay to win some money.
Seattle Seahawks +3
The first game on Sunday is one to definitely take a look at as the Seattle Seahawks (+3) face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Munich, Germany. The game should be a fun one with a great atmosphere as the first regular season game played in Germany as part of the International Series.
Tampa Bay is going to get all of the attention abroad, and rightfully so, with Tom Brady and their other big-name superstars. But the Seahawks are the team that has been playing better, more consistent football this season. The Bucs’ offense scored 80 points total in the last five games, with losses to Baltimore, Carolina, and Pittsburgh in that span.
The Bucs somehow escaped with a win last week over the LA Rams, but the offense looked putrid for three quarters. Seattle ranks in the top third in most categories in the league, and their DVOA (defense over adjusted value) is No. 5. Seattle has 27 sacks on the season, and they should keep Brady under pressure all game long, especially with Tampa’s patchwork offensive line.
Seattle brings a four-game win streak to Munich. They have knocked off the Giants, Chargers, and Arizona twice in that span while averaging 28.5 ppg in that span. Geno Smith is taking care of the ball with 15 touchdown passes and four interceptions on the season, and rookie Kenneth Walker has taken over the running game with 570 yards and seven scores.
This game is likely to be a low-scoring affair, and Seattle is well-equipped to cover, or even win straight up.
Dallas Cowboys -4
While Aaron Rodgers’ slump and the return of Mike McCarthy to Lambeau Field get all the headlines, the Dallas Cowboys appear poised to make a run.
They are coming off their bye week and have won two straight games, in dominating fashion against other NFC North opponents. Tony Pollard stepped in for an injured Zeke Elliott two weeks ago and scored three times in a 49-24 win over Chicago, and Dallas kept the Lions clamped down in a 24-6 week the game before.
Now the tough Dallas defense takes on a Packers offense that simply cannot score. Green Bay scored just nine points against an awful Lions defense last week, as Rodgers was picked off in the red zone twice. They haven’t topped 21 points since October 2, and injuries to Aaron Jones and Romeo Doubs on offense will hurt them this week.
In two games back from injury, Dak Prescott has 457 passing yards to go with three touchdown passes and one interception. He has completed 77 percent of his passes in those two games while commanding the offense. Pollard has 214 yards in the last two games and should get ample opportunity to run all over a depleted Packers defense.
The Packers were a MASH unit last week, and while they brought in former Raiders first-round pick Jonathan Abram at safety, they will be without pass rusher Rashan Gary and possibly both starting linebackers on Sunday. Dallas should have their way with the Packers’ defense and could win by double-digits.
Chicago Bears -2.5
The Bears may have finally found something in quarterback Justin Fields. The NFC Player of the Week ran for a quarterback-record 178 yards last week, and he has scored on the ground in three straight games. While his passing still leaves a lot to be desired, Fields has gone two straight games without an interception.
The Chicago defense has been a mess, allowing 49 points to Dallas and 35 to Miami in the last two weeks after training Roquan Smith and Robert Quinn.
However, the Detroit offense should be the tonic they need to get back on track. The Lions scored 15 points last week against Green Bay and were held out of the end zone in the second half against Miami, blowing a big lead.
The Lions’ defense ranks 32nd overall and 31st against the rush. They will have trouble keeping Fields and the two Bears running backs under wraps, even if Chicago can’t get the passing game going. The Bears are +1 in turnover differential while Detroit is -3, and that’s after they picked off Rodgers three times last Sunday.
The Lions are beat up with key injuries in WR Josh Reynolds, S Kerby Joseph, and LB Malcolm Rodriguez. Chicago has won seven of eight in this series and should be able to cover the number at home on Sunday.
