Guess What. Michigan State is not the favorite of the New Jersey bookmakers heading into the Final Four of March Madness.
Yes, this despite Michigan’s 68-67 defeat of long-time favorites Duke in that rousing Elite Eight eliminator on Sunday.
On April 1, the bookies preferred Virginia who toppled Purdue 80-75 in another of the four Elite Eight games.
New Jersey sportsbook market leader FanDuel, for instance, had Virginia topping their futures list of Championship favorites at +125. They had Michigan State in second place at +180.
Texas Tech, after something of a shock 75-69 defeat of highly-rated Gonzaga, was at +450 and Auburn at +750.
William Hill also had Virginia tops, but at +150, followed by Michigan State at +160. Its odds on Texas and Auburn were the same as FanDuel’s.
Top seed Virginia will now play Auburn, the 5th seed, this upcoming Saturday at 6:09 p.m. (EST). Michigan State, the No 2-seeds, will then take on No. 3 seeds Texas Tech later that day at 8:50 p.m. ET.
Both Final Four games will be televised by CBS as will the US College Championship final.
