Casinos worldwide are turning to facial recognition technology to keep troubled gamblers away from their tables and betting windows.
All responsible gambling establishments, including the growing band in New Jersey, offer troubled or addicted patrons various self-exclusion options.
To protect themselves these patrons are able to sign themselves out, either for a stipulated period or indefinitely. The gaming establishments are then obligated to prevent them from gaming or betting during their self-exclusion windows
A gamer who voluntarily signs himself out of gambling must submit a photograph of himself together with his application. These photos are then circulated to all casinos, race tracks and land-based sports betting shops in the US.
If caught breaking their terms of self-exclusion, problem gamblers are being escorted out of gaming and wagering establishments. In some State’s they can even be arrested for trespassing.
This latest use of high-tech self-security is spreading all over the world. It currently extends from the US through Australia and New Zealand to Asia, Europe, and Africa.
Recently a self-excluded problem gambler trying to enter an Australian casino was stopped twice. This was despite the fact that on each occasion he was wearing a disguise.
