NO DECISION YET ON WHETHER BREES STAYS AND PLAYS

The New Orleans Saints would welcome back Drew Brees with open arms if the 41-year-old veteran opts to return.

And why not? Brees is one of the all-time great quarterbacks, both of College football and of the NFL.

The fact that he has reached the Super Bowl 13 times, winning it once when he was also its MVP are just some of his accomplishments. As a passer, pure and simple, he’s ranked by many as one of the very best ever. And the records he has set are longer than his throwing arm.

Right now, though, Brees, who has became a free agent, has yet to make up his mind about where he goes from here.

The Dallas-born Texan became the NFL’s all-time leader in touchdown passes in December in the Saints’ NFC wild-card loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

However, he plans to consult with his family before deciding on whether to continue with an illustrious career. It has seen him total 77,416 passing yards with 10,160 passes being complete 67.6% of the time

“I need some time with my family’

“I wanted to give it at least a few weeks, months, postseason, just to take a deep breath and decompress a little bit and get some time with the family and then just reassess,” Brees told ESPN.

“The most important thing is time with my family, to be with them, talk to them about it. It will be a shared decision. I know my boys wish Dad could play forever.”

New Orleans general manager Mickey Loomis has promised there would be space for Brees if he choses to return for the 2020 season.

“Yeah. I don’t think it’s any different than it’s been for the last few years,” Loomis said.

“It’s easy to take him for granted, yet I don’t take him for granted.

Loomis said that regardless of whether or not Brees had a contract, he did not view it any differently than he did a year ago. “Or, in fact,” he added, “the year before that or the year before that.”

“He’s a good player. He’s been a good player. He continues to be a good player.”
