New Jersey sports betting handle and revenue continued to soar in August, according to its Division of Gaming Enforcement.
Its sportsbook operators posted a 41% month-on-month rise in revenue and a whopping 174% increase in its 2018 August figure.
Not too much should be made of its comparison with its 2018 totals, however. Sports betting there had only been active for three months following the lifting of the prohibition on US sports betting.
As against $9.2m last year, the Garden State maintained its rise by keeping $25.2m from its August handle of $294.6m.
With its 41% healthy month-on-month increase, however, there’s a good chance it has once more out-performed Nevada. New Jersey did it in May and again in July.
The one-time gambling Mecca of the USA regularly releases its gaming figures a few weeks after New Jersey. It has yet to do so this month.

Next best was fellow sports fantasy giant DraftKings and its partner Resorts Casino at 38.9m. William Hill at Monmouth Park Race Track was a distant third with $14.6 million.
Play SugarHouse, FanDuel and DraftKings are all now operating online sportsbooks in neighbouring Pennsylvania.
FanDuel and DraftKings, New Jersey’s sportsbook market leaders, both went live in Pennsylvania during August. In other words, they were not operational for the full month in a market early entrant SugarHouse has been dominating
Like Nevada, Pennsylvania has yet to release its revenue and handle figures for August. When it does, it’ll be interesting to see how SugarHouse, Pennsylvania’s current stand-out No 1 sportsbook, has stood up to the new invaders.
