MAYWEATHER’S TAKE ON SPORTS BETTING

Floyd Mayweather continues to be a proponent of the expansion of sports betting in the US.
Even though Floyd Mayweather is retired, he still has an infamous figure that finds his way into the spotlight. Just like everyone else, he is eager for sports to return.

No one has quite been involved and seen the sports gambling scene evolve more than Mayweather. Las Vegas has become his home, and he has even invested in what it has become.

“I think it’s global, we all need sports,” Mayweather told Forbes. “Sports have broken through barriers of equality and solidified friendships for years. You don’t need to even speak the same language to witness the power of sports.”

He has topped the Forbes list for the highest-paid athletes on several occasions.

Sports Betting Improving the Economy

Now, more than ever, people are realizing the power of sports betting. Not only for those who love to partake but the number of companies that are involved.

Sports teams are now even partnering with sportsbooks, relationships that would’ve never happened years ago.

“The gaming industry is massive and often overlooked by the horror stories of bettors who aren’t disciplined,” Mayweather said. “But the industry itself employs hundreds of thousands of people, helps support state economies and, most importantly, now, creates hope through the excitement of winning big.”

He isn’t the only one that has noticed the opportunity for states across the country to assist in their economies. Several have tried to push legislation during the COVID-19 shutdown.

Coming Out of Retirement?

The last time Mayweather stepped into the ring was his fight with Conor McGregor back in 2017. That fight pushed him to 50-0 in his career.

Since then, he has announced his retirement. But he has also mentioned a potential return, after already coming out of retirement three times.

“For now, I’m happily retired. You never know, but it would have to be worth it,” Mayweather said. “Just like gambling, right? Juice worth the squeeze no matter who the opponent is.”

It seems there will always be a price for Mayweather to get back into the ring. But whether or not there will ever be the right opponent to get to that figure is the question.

He is adamant about not entering the octagon for a UFC match, which is probably smart. He is the undefeated boxer, so no need to cross into anyone else’s territory.

Now, McGregor has joined the club of being “maybe retired.” He has also announced he won’t be fighting in the UFC moving forward.

But just like Mayweather, McGregor also has his price. He will be quick to return for a fight that is worth the money.

One thing is for sure, and that is they’re both still training. No way either of these two has sat back on the couch and lost what has made them so much money to start with.

Mayweather has a little less time for a comeback since he is 43 years old. It will be interesting to see if he tries to make a return any time soon.
