Britain’s famed Premier League begins its new season on Friday Night featuring last season’s runners-up Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are huge favorites for this stand-alone Friday match on home turf at Anfield.
On Monday, some four days before the game, 888sport’s fractional odds were 2/13 and Resorts Casino’s American odds -695.
Norwich, Liverpool’s opponents, and big underdogs were being quoted at 18/1 and +1425 respectively by the same New Jersey sportsbooks.
For over and under punters the odds were 6/5 over and 13/20 under on a soccer high of 3.5.
Under Klopp’s astute management, Liverpool won the coveted European Championship last year. Their prime target, the Premier League title, however, evaded them. And this although they lost just once and finished with a Liverpool record points tally.
Instead, their long wait to reclaim a title held dear by their staunch Merseyside fans goes on. This was because reigning champions Manchester City gave nothing away in their staunch defense of it.
City’s battle with Liverpool could be the season’s big highlight
This season’s running battle between the two North England giants is expected to be one of its most enthralling features.
Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola’s crack City squad open their bid for a hat-trick of Premier League titles against West Ham. Their match is one of the nine set down for the next day, the opening Saturday of the 2019/2020 season.
It’s an away game for City, but that hasn’t stopped the New Jersey sportsbooks from also making them big favorites.
Resorts Casino on Monday had them listed at -390 and West Ham at +950. 888sport, meantime was quoting 1/4 on the champions and 10/1 on West Ham.
On a weekend that is always full of intrigue and questions, punters will watch to see how the two newly promoted teams, Sheffield United and Aston Villa perform.
Sheffield is playing Bournemouth while they set Aston Villa with its long list of new signings to take on Tottenham at their new stadium.
The two newbies are both underdogs; Sheffield at +280 to Bournemouth’s -105 and Villa at +950 as opposed to Tottenham’s -365.
