LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo have been voted back as the NBA All-Star team captains for February’s big showpiece game in Chicago.

Three newcomers, Luka Doncic, Trae Young and Pascal Siakam, will also take the floor for the 69th edition of this annual exhibition match

Los Angeles Lakers superstar James captained Team LeBron to victory over Team Giannis in 2019. Now the standout pair will renew their rivalry at United Center on February 16.

James, an All-Star for the 16th year of his illustrious career, will have the chance to draft the new Dallas Mavericks sensation Doncic onto his team for the first time.

Doncic (9/2) is second only to established star James Hardin (4/1), on the current list of New Jersey sports betting favourite to win this season’s MVP award.

MVP favourites Hardin and Doncic both in James’ team

And luckily for LeBron both are in his Western Conference All-Star starting team. It is completed by regulars Anthony Davis and Kawhi Leonard.

Atlanta Hawks guard Young topped the vote for the Eastern Conference backcourt where he’ll play alongside Boston Celtics’ Kemba Walker.

The pair was voted in ahead of four-time All Star Jimmy Butler and the Philadelphia 76ers’ star Ben Simmons. The latter scored poorly in the fan portion of the vote.

Siakam’s selection comes after averaging a career-best 23.5 points per game for the Toronto Raptors this season. On the other hand Joel Embiid claimed a frontcourt berth despite an injury-hit season

Fan ballots were weighted at 50 per cent, while current players and the media each contributed 25 per cent of the vote for the starter teams.

James and Antetokounmpo as captains will complete their teams from the eight other starters, while NBA head coaches will be responsible for choosing the 14 reserves that will be announced on January 30.
