The ‘pace of progress’ of FOX Bet products in the New Jersey sports-betting arena has been “extraordinary”.
The words are those of FOX Bet CEO Robin Chhabra. They were included in an update issued by international gaming giants, The Stars Group this week.
The Group, together with Fox Sports this month, re-launched their BetStars sportsbook re-branded as FOX Bet. Also new; It now includes informed media content from Fox Sports, one of the US’s biggest sports media houses.
Two weeks later, on September 13, FOX Bet announced that it had also launched a ‘Super Six’ contest. This is a free-to-play sports prediction game in which players can win hundreds of thousands of dollars each week.
In the nine days since its launch, their update disclosed, we have downloaded the Super 6 app 280,000 times. And from those downloads, a total of 425,000 contest entries have already been received.
Super 6 already in Top 20 in Apple Store
Its extraordinary popularity has seen the Super 6 App rise into a Top 20 ranking in the Apple App Store and Top 10 in the Stores sports games section.
Chhabra said they had launched FOX Bet and Super 6 just four months after they completed their sports wagering.
“The pace of progress and the dedication and execution of our team and the FOX Sports team is extraordinary. ”
“Together with FOX Sports, an icon in sports programming, we’ve built a platform like nothing US sport has ever seen. We’re bringing fans closer to games they love. And we’re doing it by making our platform more fun and engaging than any others out there.”
FanDuel, the market leader in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, built its popularity on a base of daily fantasy sports users. So, too did closest pursuer DraftKings.
DFS was never banned. The two operators already had millions of nation-wide DFS users when sports betting was unbanned.
Clever marketing move
The instantly-popular Super 6 contest looks to me to be a clever marketing move. BetStars, who have been operating in NJ for nearly a year will have seen what DFS has done for FanDuel and DraftKings.
They will know what a battle it’s been getting market share against them. They’ll have seen that more than their excellent sportsbook and an international reputation were needed to do it.
They might well have found it. Their link up with one of the US’s highest-profile sports media companies is in itself an excellent move. The launch of its Super-6 game should be another – if the huge following it has already attracted means anything.
New Jersey and Pennsylvania front runners FanDuel, DraftKings, SugarHouse and William Hill night have to start looking over their shoulders. And this in the not too distant future.
