CHECKING IN ON THE MLB AT THE QUARTER POLE

The MLB season landscape is beginning to take shape as teams pass by the quarter pole mark, as we review the season so far with the incredible moments and exciting matchups we are looking forward to.

With the weekend games completed, most Major League Baseball teams have now played 40 games, getting a quarter of the way through the season.

The Boston Red Sox lead the American League East with a record of 25-17, just ahead of the 22-17 Toronto Blue Jays. The New York Yankees (22-18) and Tampa Bay Rays (23-19) are just two games back in what is likely to be a hotly contested race. DraftKings list the Yankees as the favorites to win the division at -112 with the Red Sox and Blue Jays at +350 and the Rays at +550.

The Chicago White Sox haven’t let injuries damper their season as they lead the AL Central at 24-15. The Cleveland Indians are the only other team above .500, at 21-17. The White Sox are clear favorites to win the division at -305, with the Indians at +300.

The Oakland A’s started strong with a 13-game win streak but have fallen back to the pack in the AL West. At 25-17, the A’s lead the Houston Astros by a half-game heading into Monday’s action. The Seattle Mariners are also over .500 at 21-20. The Astros are the favorites at -112, with the A’s at +102 and the 17-22 LA Angels at +900

League Favorites

The White Sox have the best win percentage in the AL at .615, while the Minnesota Twins are at the bottom with a 13-25 record (.342). Despite the best record, the White Sox have the second-best odds to win the American League at +450. The Yankees remain the favorites at +300.

The Astros are +700 with the A’s at +800 and the Red Sox at +900. The Blue Jays (+1000), Rays (+1200), and Angels (+1500) round out the top eight.

National League Standings

In the National League, the New York Mets have played the least amount of games in the Majors (34) but lead the East at 18-16. They are a half-game better than the 21-20 Philadelphia Phillies, with the other three teams sporting losing records. The Mets are the betting favorite to win the division at +100 with the 19-21 Atlanta Braves at +200 and the Phillies at +350.

Despite getting swept in San Diego over the weekend, the St. Louis Cardinals lead the Central with a 23-18 record. The Milwaukee Brewers are two games back at 21-10, with the Cincinnati Reds at 19-19. The Cardinals and Brewers are both +120 to win the Central, with the Reds at +800 and the 19-20 Chicago Cubs at +900.

The San Francisco Giants continue to be the surprise team of 2021, and they lead the West with a 24-16 record. The San Diego Padres are a half-game back at 24-17, while the Los Angeles Dodgers are 22-18. The Dodgers are still the favorites at -315, with the Padres at +230 and the Giants at +1700.

League Favorites

The Giants have the best win percentage in the NL at .600, while the Colorado Rockies have the worst at .366 with a 15-26 record. The Giants have the ninth-best odds to win the pennant at +2800.

The Dodgers remain the favorites at +160, with the Padres at +400. The Mets are +500, with the Braves at +600 as they duel for the NL East. The two Central leaders are next, with the Brewers at +1100 and the Cardinals at +1400. The Phillies check-in at +1800, with the Reds at +2200.

World Series Favorites Unchanged

Despite not living up to expectations through the first 40 games, the Dodgers and Yankees remain the top World Series favorites. The defending champion Dodgers are +325 to repeat, down from +300 to start the season.

The Yankees opened at +400 and are now +700 to win their first title in over a decade. The Padres are +850, with the White Sox and Mets both at +900. The Braves are +1500, with the Astros, Red Sox, A’s, and Cardinals all at +2000. The defending AL champion Rays are +2200 along with the Brewers and Blue Jays.

The Red Sox and Brewers both opened the season at +4000 and have seen the biggest changes. On the other way, the Twins opened at +2000 and are now at +4000 with the worst record in baseball.
