After scheduling problems created by COVID-19, the first major championship has arrived for the PGA. This Thursday, players will tee-off at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, California.
Coming off of the WGC St. Jude Invitational
Justin Thomas was able to get the win this past weekend in Memphis, Tennessee. This tournament featured much of the same field that will be at the PGA Championship.
Thomas ended up winning by three strokes, pulling away from Brooks Koepka at the end of the round on Sunday. He will enter this weekend as the favorite at +900. He is the only golfer in the field that has single-digit odds.
Koepka was struggling this year until this past weekend. That performance definitely boosted his odds as they now sit at +1100 for the PGA Championship.
Jon Rahm entered last weekend as the number one golfer in the world. This was his first tournament with the status, and he didn’t perform well.
He finished the tournament at +1, tied for 52nd place. He still enters the PGA Championship as one of the favorites at +1500.
Jordan Spieth will be going for a career grand slam this weekend. He will be attempting to become the sixth player in history to do so.
He has struggled in the past couple of years, not being the same golfer that fans saw early in his career. However, he has started showing signs of coming out of that slump in the past two weeks. He finished -4, tied for 30th place at WGC St. Jude.
Phil Mickelson had a great performance this past weekend. He tied for second with a score of -10, but sportsbooks don’t have confidence he will follow that up in the PGA Championship.
Lefty’s odds are +9000 to win.
Tiger Woods is Back
Fans are eager to watch more Tiger Woods. He decided not to play in the WGC St. Jude Invitational in order to prepare for the PGA Championship. He will look to bounce back after a poor performance at the Memorial several weeks ago.
At an older age, it’s doubtful that fans will get the opportunity to see him as much as they used to. But he will be trying to be in peak shape for the majors.
This will be the first time Woods has competed at Harding Park since the 2009 Presidents Cup. Because of this, he arrived at the course early and got a full round in on Sunday. It took a while to get on the course since he and his caddy has to pass a coronavirus test.
The last major for Tiger was The Open last year, where he failed to make the cut. He currently sits as the 15thranked golfer in the world.
Woods is a four-time PGA Champion but has failed to make a cut in this tournament since 2014. His odds are set at +3300.
Tee times for this weekend will be announced on Tuesday.
