The New York Post rated the top 10 faces of sports in the Big Apple. There have previous athletes such as Derek Jeter, Odell Beckham Jr., Patrick Ewing, and many more that have won over the city. Today, sports are just as popular as ever in New York City.
No. 1
For more years than any other team, the top spot has been going to a Yankee. The Post doesn’t have it any different right now. Aaron Judge comes in as the top face in New York City sports. He has been a part of the team since they built their way up to become title contenders.
There is a large part of right field in Yankee Stadium known as the “Judge’s Chambers,” which seats some of the rowdiest Yankee fans. One of Judge’s talents that captivates fans is his pure power. He showcased that in the 2017 Home Run Derby.
Judge is not only the face of the Yankees but one of the main faces of Major League Baseball. The only player he might sit behind in that conversation is Mike Trout. Judge has led the league in jersey sales for the past three seasons.
2-5
Coming in at No. 2 is another baseball slugger, but this one is playing in Queens. In 2019, Pete Alonso broke Judge’s rookie record for home runs, won the Home Run Derby, and took home NL Rookie of the Year.
Third is Jacob deGrom. He isn’t a name that has surfaced in the last year or two, but he’s making a case for the Hall of Fame. He won back-to-back Cy Young awards and continues to be one of the best pitchers in the league.
Number four is Saquan Barkley. He could be making plays for the Giants for a long time. Barkley is one of the most talented backs in the league and more than likely stronger than his competition.
“He was touched by the hand of God,” Giants general manager Dave Gettleman said after selecting the running back with the second overall pick in 2018.
In fifth is James Dolan. Knicks fans continue to hope for a change in fortune. After not landing a big free agent, their owner still finds a way to make headlines. Popular or not, he is still on the list.
6-10
The first Jet at number six! Jets fans are hoping for success out of their young QB, Sam Darnold. It’s been a while since they have seen the playoffs, and he might be the one to lead them there.
Number seven is someone who hasn’t even played a game for a New York team yet. Kevin Durant was such a big name to come to Brooklyn that he sit out a year and still comes in seventh. As years go along, he might be moving up.
In eighth is Daniel Jones. Giants fans want the same miracle throws that former QB Eli Manning made in the postseason.
Ninth is the lone hockey player on the list in Artemi Panarin. The highest-paid winger in the league is playing for the Rangers.
And to end, it might as well be the Yankees general manager, Brian Cashman. He is the constant face that appears when any news about the Yankees breaks.
