New Jersey Punters Win Big With Parlay Bets

New Jersey Punters Win Big with Parlay BetsNJSportsbook Editor

A William Hill punter in New Jersey hit a 15-bet, multi-sport, money line parlay at the weekend that paid $239,588. And this for a total stake of only $1800.

He struck gold for the first time Friday in the first seven legs of the Parlay. One of his wins came on The Houston Astros in Game 3 of the World Series. USC’s comeback victory over Colorado did it for him in college basketball, and his other five wins all came in NBA games.

This was through victories by the Nets, Mavericks, Lakers, Trail Blazers and the Nuggets though the latter really must have made the punter sweat.

In the end, Denver were only able to edge out the Phoenix Suns by one slender point in their super tense 108-107 overtime victory.

So much for Friday; on Saturday the New Jersey punter had to survive five more winning bets in his parlay.  And yes, he had to live through some more close shaves.

He had decent-enough College basketball wins Saturday on Ohio State, Penn State, and Iowa.

Oregon had the Punter on edge of his seat

Oregon, however, must have had him on the edge of his seat. They only beat Washington State 37-35 either a field goal as time expired.

And there was more Saturday drama for him to live through. Alex De Minaur needed all three sets to beat Reilly Opelka in the TPA’s Swiss Indoors in Basel.

His 15-bet, 3-day Parlay marathon ended Sunday less stressfully. The Patriots, 49ers and the Rams all looked unstoppable as they each sailed home with double-digit NFL victories.

Talking about football wagers at the weekend; it was reported that another parlay bet, a six-game money liner with DraftKings, netted a New Jersey man $28,074 from a total stake of $2,000.

His winners were the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints, LA Rams, Tennessee Titans, Indianapolis Colts and LA Chargers.

Indianapolis trailed and looked like costing him his parlay when Adam Vinatieri came up with the saving kick. He nailed a 51-yard field goal with only 22 seconds left, edging Colts into a 15-13 victory over Denver.

Missed field goal by Bears saved the parlay

The punter of this parlay also had a lucky win with the Chargers. They beat Chicago Bears 17-16.  But it was not before Bears kicker Eddy Pineiro was wide left with a last-gasp 41-yard field goal attempt.

Parlays, in the year-and-a-bit sports betting, have been legal and have proved to be NJ’s most popular form of betting. And the State’s Division of Gaming Enforcement has the figures to prove it.

It is a high risk, yes, but because each winning bet is multiplied by the next, it also offers huge rewards for relatively small stakes.

New Jersey’s 17 sportsbooks are not likely to mind too much about these large payouts, however.  On their side, they receive large numbers of Parlay bets but very seldom lose on them.

Footnote: Mattress Mac on the brink

When talking about big money bets we’d be remiss not to once more mention ‘Mattress Mac’ McIngvale.

On Tuesday, October 10, the Houston Furniture store owner was on the brink of winning (or losing) what is believed to be the US’s biggest-ever sports bet.

For a stake of some $12 million placed with various sportsbooks, mostly in New Jersey, Nevada, and Mississippi, he is set to win $22m.

For that to happen, though, his favorite baseball team, the Houston Astros, must-win Wednesday’s 7th and final game of the 7-game World Series.

Heading into it, Houston were tied at 3-games-all with the Washington Nationals – and could not have been sleeping too well.

The game was to be played at Minute Maid Park, the home turf of the Astros in Houston.  However, unusually all six of the World Series games played so far have been won by the visiting team.

has placed his bets confident that the Astros will win and his big betting pay-off will enable him  to cover a year-long +/- $20m promotion

He’s been offering buyers of mattresses worth more than $3, 000 a full refund should the Astros win the 2019 World Series.

If they win he’ll be able to cover the promotion with a little over to help make up for all the money he has staked.

If they lose Wednesday, he’ll have lost the millions he’s staked, but he won’t have to make any refunds on his mattress sales.
