With the PASPA law that had forbid sports betting now a thing of past, wagering windows are opening all over America.
Until now, be they online or land-based, sportsbooks have had to be partnered by licensed casinos or racing establishments. In the rising betting hub, New Jersey, this applies to all 14 of its current online sportsbooks But there might soon be changes.
Sports stadiums could be joining casinos like Atlantic City’s Hard Rock and Borgata and racetracks like Meadowlands and Monmouth Park. And it is most likely to happen first in Illinois, not in New Jersey.
As we speak, the Chicago Cubs, according to ESPN, is in exploratory talks with Illinois’ gambling authorities. They are contemplating opening a fully equipped
sports betting facility at their famed Wrigley Field baseball stadium.
These “preliminary discussions” are taking place while gaming operators await the governors’ signature on recently-passed legislation allowing betting.
The Cubs are looking at opening a betting lounge at Wrigley Field that will include betting windows and self-betting kiosks. It may also offer live TV coverage of sport and restaurant and bar facilities.
If they do get the go-ahead for a four-year gaming license, it will come at a cost of $10 million, we understand.
