The SugarHouse Casino in Philadelphia has this week been given the green light by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board to officially open a SugarHouse sportsbook.
This followed a two-day operational testing run at the Casino.
“We’re thrilled to make Philly history as the city’s first licensed sportsbook,” said Cheryl Duhon, the general manager of SugarHouse Casino, when making the announcement
“If our soft launch was any indication, there’s a big demand among Philly sports fans and gamers to get in on the action.”
As it does in New Jersey where earlier this year SugarHouse was one of the first of the eight sportsbooks to open in the Garden State, it will offer a wide variety of bets on a large number of sporting events including NFL football, basketball, baseball, NHL hockey, soccer, college sport, tennis, golf, boxing and many more.
Wagers will include but will not be limited to straight bets, parlays, totals, futures, and in-game live betting and while online sports betting is expected to follow in the near future, to start with only brick and mortar bets will be possible on a cash basis and winning tickets will be redeemable at the SugarHouse Sportsbook betting windows or, when the Sportsbook is closed, at the casino’s cashier cages.
The new Sportsbook is located just inside the north entrance of the SugarHouse Casino, opposite the Poker Night in America Poker Room.
It takes up approximately 1,800 square feet, has all the trappings of a luxury sports lounge and can accommodate some 70 guests at any one time.
A 14’ x 7’ LED video wall anchors the viewing area along with 12 additional flat-screens, high-definition monitors.
