This has been one of the craziest offseasons in NFL history in terms of superstars changing teams, and this week was no exception as a few major deals went down. Let’s take a look at some of these moves and other stories from around the league.
Tyreek Hill Traded To Dolphins
In an absolutely stunning move, the Kansas City Chiefs traded wide receiver Tyreek Hill on Wednesday to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for five draft picks. The picks include three picks this year (first, second and fourth-round picks), as well as a fourth and sixth-round pick next season.
Hill and the Chiefs had been discussing an extension; however, those talks quickly dissipated as it was clear that Kansas City would not meet his price. Instead, with the Dolphins, Hill will sign a four-year deal worth $120 million.
Hill’s mega-deal makes him the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL, topping the recent deal signed by Davante Adams with the Raiders.
Last season, Hill had 111 receptions for 1,239 yards and nine touchdowns with the Chiefs. Of course, he had Patrick Mahomes throwing to him and will now rely on Tua Tagovailoa.
With the 28-year-old Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Cedrick Wilson, and Devante Parker, the Dolphins wide receiving core is second to none.
For Mahomes and the Chiefs, they are armed with tight end Travis Kelce, newly signed JuJu Smith-Schuster, and a litany of draft picks to use on a draft that is very deep at the wide receiver position.
The Chiefs still have the third-best odds of winning the Super Bowl, currently at +950, while the Dolphins are +3600 to win it all.
Matt Ryan Will Now Call Indianapolis Home
On Monday, Tom Pelissero of NFL.com reported that after trading away Carson Wentz earlier in the offseason, the Indianapolis Colts finally found their quarterback. After 14 years starting for the Atlanta Falcons, the team traded quarterback Matt Ryan to the Colts in exchange for a third-round pick.
The 36-year-old Ryan still has a lot left in the tank as last year he threw for 3,968 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. With the veteran under center, the Colts hope that Ryan can lead them back into the playoffs with Super Bowl aspirations in mind.
Indianapolis is currently +1300 to win the AFC and +2400 to win the Super Bowl this season.
As for Atlanta, they did not take long to find Ryan’s replacement. Also, on Monday, the Falcons agreed to a two-year deal with Marcus Mariota worth just under $19 million.
Mariota for the Raiders last season, but he only threw two passes (one completion) for four yards. His last full season as a starter was in 2018 when he went 7-6 with the Titans and threw for 2,528 yards, 11 touchdowns, and eight interceptions in 14 games (13 starts).
Winston Returns To Saints
Jameis Winston is returning to familiar ground. On Monday, the 28-year-old quarterback agreed to a two-year deal worth $28 million to return to the New Orleans Saints.
Winston started the season last year as the Saints’ quarterback, but he suffered an ACL tear halfway through. In seven games, he threw for 1,170 yards, 14 touchdowns, and just three interceptions.
He will try to lead an offense that ranked 19th in the league in scoring last season at 21.4 points per game. He will also be leading a team that no longer is under the guidance of Sean Payton.
Bringing some semblance of consistency, though, will be offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael, who has been serving in the role for New Orleans and will take over play-calling duties.
The Saints are currently +4000 to win the Super Bowl.
